The first five minutes might be one of the most important times in any class. This can sometimes be tricky because you need to accomplish three sometimes competing goals:
- First, you need to attend to individual students or class logistics.
- Second, you need to transition the whole class to start thinking about your course material.
- Finally, you need to establish a comfortable routine where the start of a class doesn’t feel confusing or hectic.
