118 People to Follow on Twitter – Education Edition

March 29, 2015 Brendan Schneider

I joined Twitter on May 20, 2008. (http://twbirthday.com/schneiderb/)

It took me 1 year and 1 month before I sent my first tweet on June 20, 2009. (https://discover.twitter.com/first-tweet#schneiderb)

Why?

Because I didn’t know what to tweet about or who to follow.

I’m just relieved to see that I didn’t tweet what I was eating for lunch that day.

Approximately 1 year and 2 months later I wrote a piece for edSocialmedia and suggested 101 people to follow on Twitter. The goal with that blog post was to help jump-start my education colleagues use of Twitter by identifying useful people to follow – saving them time searching and researching people on Twitter.

Fast forward 4 years and much has changed. Twitter has physically changed and people now use Twitter differently – it has become a wonderful professional resource, especially for educators with the rise of personally learning networks (PLNs).

Although much has changed there are still quite a few school people who have not joined Twitter. Since September I’ve seen quite a few teachers at Sewickley Academy join Twitter and as a result I thought it was time to update my Twitter list.

I enlisted the help of my friend Susan Bearden (@s_bearden), Director of Information Technology at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and the creator of the Tweechme App and we’ve come up with 118 people to follow on Twitter – Education Edition.

The list below is an eclectic mix of people and organizations covering topics including education technology, teaching, learning, marketing, leadership, admissions, advancement, social media, and most anything related to schools.

They are in no particular order. Additionally, in order to make following this list easier I’ve created a Twitter list called the Blackbaud118. Follow the Blackbaud118.
