Idea to Feature: A Brand New Community Groups Experience

January 9, 2014 Peter Baron

One of the added values of onCampus is that it’s a Learning Management System (LMS) that reaches far beyond the classroom.

The private school experience doesn’t end with the last academic class of the day. Participation in extracurriculars, such as student drama performances, community service, and clubs is paramount. The whole school experience helps private schools to clearly articulate their value.

We designed onCampus with that in mind.

Take our Community Groups feature for instance, schools can use it to provide an online space for their extracurriculars (ex. Lego League and Chess Club) and subgroups of constituents (ex. 12th Grade Parents, Lower School Teachers) to engage and communicate.

In today’s Idea to Feature, Jackie Christensen, Product Owner for onCampus, shows us how Community Groups have been recoded to match the look, feel, and functionality of Classes, Teams, and Advisories. Now your Community Group Owners will be able to manage general information on a Bulletin Board, organize resources into Topics, and use a searchable Roster to communicate.

And of course, these newly coded pages will respond beautifully across any device that your Community Group members choose to visit from.

This modernized version of Community Groups will be going live as part of the 1/15/14 release.
