Since we started the Idea to Feature series, we’ve shared a number of feature enhancements — the vast majority based on recommendations made by you.
From making the reuse of classroom materials much, much easier to providing granular control over what content appears in the Activity Feed, the intent of each video we produce is to show you how our products continue to evolve with your input.
In today’s Idea to Feature, not only are we showing enhancements to our “on” products, but we’re doing so on a scale we’ve never seen before.
Jackie Christensen, Product Owner for onCampus, shares how with the upcoming July 3 release, a wave of exciting enhancements will become available — all of them benefiting the core experience across our products.
Strengthening the Core!
Starting next week, you’ll see notable changes to the core experience, including additions to the global navigation, adjustments to the Activity Stream sidebar, and the introduction of a new Resource Board.
Let’s start with the global navigation update & Activity Stream.
We are moving access to both the Activity Stream and the Directory to the global navigation so they will always be available to your users, no matter where one is in the application.
We’re also adding a way for users to dig a little deeper into your archived content. Content archives available in the sidebar of the Activity Stream will allow them to find a news story from last year, or the scores from last week’s games.
And what about the Resource Board — a feature that grew out of an idea shared with us by one of the early adopter schools?
There are some school communications and resources that have a longer shelf life than what an Activity Stream has to offer, such as Library Resources, School Nurse Information, Online Giving, Event Registrations, or Summer Reading Expectations. The Resource Board provides schools with a space to share and promote these resources in a visually appealing and touch-friendly format.
You can also assign Resource Board items by division. Realistically, the resources a lower school parent needs are very different from the resources needed by an upper school parent. We addressed that by tapping into your existing school levels and personas to make it easy for you to communicate the right information to the right audience.
You’ll learn more about all of these enhancements at UC13. If you can’t make it and have questions, just leave us a comment below. We’d love to hear from you.
