Idea to Feature: A Customized Activity Stream for Your School

April 19, 2013 Peter Baron

Since the beginning of our Early Adopter Program, we heard great feedback that schools were loving our new Activity Stream. By pulling in and displaying content that has been added to the site since you last logged in, the activity stream keeps members of your school connected to what’s happening in the community.

But what if there’s content that you don’t want to appear in the stream — say, an updated photo from the homepage or a download file that wasn’t necessarily relevant?

It can become overwhelming, a flood of information. That’s the feedback Jackie Christensen, Product Owner for onCampus, got from schools. They asked for a way to pick & choose which content gets published to the stream.

So how did we improve the Activity Stream?

We listened and applied your feedback to give you more control over what appears.

Now, in onCampus, there are brand new “Activity Stream Settings.” From there, you can see all of the content types that we support on the stream, such as news, announcements, and photos.

By clicking the “Add More” button, you can select the types of content that you want to display. You can also remove existing items from the stream.

Through your feedback and ideas, we’ve refined the feature so that you now have total control of what appears in your school’s Activity Stream — making it an even more efficient way to keep the community connected.
