5 Tips to Help You Launch onCampus from The Lexington School

December 14, 2015 Mark Christensen

Jaime Lassman, Director of Studies at The Lexington School, was looking for a top notch learning management system to integrate with their existing database and transform their school online interactions. He chose Blackbaud’s onCampus.

I recently caught up with Jaime at bbcon ‘15, Blackbaud’s annual conference for nonprofits. He was giving a presentation to school administrators on implementing onCampus. I thought his topic was great, so I pulled him aside to make sure I captured his top 5 tips for those who were unable to attend!

Take a minute to watch the video below and learn a bit more from Jaime’s experience.

These 5 pro tips will be a successful guide in planning your own onCampus launch. From when to start the process and communicate, to carving out time for teachers, and offering support along the way. Jaime shares the following:

Tip #1: Start training process early

Tip #2: Proactively communicate

Tip #3: Give teachers a head start

Tip #4: Schedule time to show off

Tip #5: Set aside time for support and re-training

Jaime also offers steps to help you focus not just on what you need to make the software work, but on what parents, students, and teachers need to make the shift to the new learning tools. His comments on reaching out to the school community and keeping them up to date are very insightful.

While Jaime and I we were discussing all of the various ins and outs of his implementation, he hit upon something that really resonated with me. How The Lexington School’s mission is to provide the highest quality education and that interacting online played a very important part of him choosing onCampus. Seeing the comprehensive work teachers are doing building out their topics pages for students with video and downloadable files is an excellent example.

Another example of online interaction is offering a single user experience to a school community. That’s definitely a benefit and one that Blackbaud delivers. The way Jaime sees it:

We felt the best choice was onCampus because it’s a responsive cloud-based software that integrates with Blackbaud databases. Launching onCampus is more than providing access to that powerful database. You will be sparking transformative changes for instruction and communication within your school.
