There is a science behind great school fundraising.  While every school is different and will use different tactics to reach its development goals, there is a proven, step-by-step formula that allows schools to dramatically increase their fundraising revenue.  This year, Blackbaud is partnering with school fundraising expert Joe Garecht to help one lucky school learn the system and supercharge their development efforts.

What You Can Win

We’re selecting one school (elementary, middle, or high school) to receive a full year of fundraising consulting from Joe Garecht.   Joe is the founder of The Fundraising Authority and the former Executive Director of BLOCS (Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools) in Philadelphia.  He has helped hundreds of schools exceed their fundraising goals and build long-term sustainable development programs.

The winning school will receive an initial in-depth consultation with Joe, a professionally-written Fundraising Action Plan for the coming year, and twice monthly fundraising coaching calls where Joe will walk you through the next steps in your development program, answer any questions you have, and help you maximize your fundraising strategies.   With his help, your school will be in a stronger position than ever before to achieve breakout fundraising success.

How Every School Can Benefit

Even if your school isn’t selected, every K-12 school will be able to benefit by following along as Joe works with the winning school.  Each month, we’ll be posting articles detailing the selected school’s fundraising progress and giving takeaways from the project that you will be able to use to help strengthen your own school’s development program.

Additionally, we’ll be producing several special webinars and podcasts to help you follow along.  Joe and the selected school will also be presenting a case study at our annual Blackbaud K-12 Users Conference in July this coming summer.  It’s going to be a great year!

Is Your School Eligible?

In order to be eligible to be selected as our case study school and receive a full year of fundraising consulting at no cost, your school must be an elementary, middle or high school in the United States that already has a fundraising program.  It doesn’t matter how much you currently raise, and you do need to be a current Blackbaud client.

Schools that wish to be selected must also commit to completing the program, including participating in the coaching calls, webinars and podcasts.  Finally, in order to be eligible, your school must be willing to attend the Blackbaud K-12 Users Conference this July in Boston.  If you have any questions about your school’s eligibility, please contact Sara Watts at

What You Need to Do

Applying is simple.  All you need to do is create a one-page Fundraising Summary for your school and submit it via e-mail to Sara Watts at This summary should include:

  • Your school’s name, address, phone number, contact person and e-mail address
  • Your school’s current enrollment
  • A brief summary of your school’s current fundraising (how much you raise each year and what tactics you use to raise those funds)
  • A brief summary of your school’s fundraising goals (how much would you like to raise over the coming 1-2 years, what strategies would you like to explore, etc.
