Schools experienced dramatic upheaval during the pandemic. Before COVID-19 we could never have imagined remote learning with students and teachers at separate locations while conversing on a square grid computer screen. Schools experienced a rollercoaster of in-person, distance, and hybrid learning. Teachers were challenged to figure out how to implement new teaching models. At the same time, many private and independent schools had an influx of new students as parents desired a smaller environment for the health and safety of their children.
K–12 fundraising has seen similar wild swings of trying to raise money virtually. The good news for fundraising is that even people who do not have school-aged children have witnessed the challenges of educating kids by watching families, neighbors and friends. Recognizing that others know and understand the struggles that schools have had can help our fundraising efforts. We begin by assessing our fundraising performance so that we can determine our optimal future direction.
