In the first of a series of partner spotlights, I’m excited to share this interview with Vidigami’s Director of Schools, Tina Barkley.
Vidigami offers a photo management solution used by more than 100 leading independent schools in North America.
Take a moment to get to know Tina and learn about Vidigami’s origin, how they ease the stress of managing and sharing the thousands of photos taken by schools each year, an overview of their integration with the "ON" products, along with an exciting new product feature set to launch this spring.
1. Tell us the story of Vidigami — how did it come to be?
Vidigami was inspired by one parent’s desire to create a platform where all parents can have a greater connection to their children and their school. In a generation fuelled by social media, this called for a more personal means for parents, students and faculty to easily share all the great things that are happening at school with each other.
Mandy Chan, Vidigami’s founder and CEO, is a parent to two boys in private school and an entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in technology innovation. As a grade parent throughout her boys’ junior school years and having spent hundreds of hours capturing, collecting and working with photos and videos, Mandy understands the challenges of keeping parents connected and engaged with photos, and how to leverage them to preserve and celebrate each student’s experiences.
Vidigami is a window into each student’s school experience and embodies every parent’s desire to see their child thrive. For schools, it’s a platform designed to help effectively manage visual content for every department. For students, it’s the place they can rely on for preserving their school memories. Vidigami’s commitment is to provide the best place for storing and sharing those school memories.
2. What problem does Vidigami solve for a private school? How does it make someone’s life easier?
Thousands of photos are taken by the school and their community every year with no way to effectively capture, manage and share them. Anyone who has taken on the job of managing content for marketing, communications and yearbook publishing appreciates the painstaking hours required in collecting photos from this community, finding the “right” photos for publication and storing those photos in an organized and accessible way. Vidigami makes this process easy and effectively transforms the avalanche of photos from digital bits into valuable assets for attracting new families, engaging current families and reconnecting with alumni.
- Control over Content and User Access. Sharing the student experience with families is critical for any private school. But, privacy and security are paramount. Vidigami provides a members-only space that allows schools to customize user roles and permissions. Who can access content and the degree of that access can be tailored to the needs of the school, the members within a group, or even an individual user.
Centralization of Content. Vidigami intelligently tags every photo by school year, grade/group and event as they are uploaded by members of the school community. This immediately organizes content into a centralized repository. Photos don’t get lost in storage devices and the “silo-ing” of content is minimized.
Making the most out of your photos. With all school photos in one place, search and finding photos is a breeze. Rather than looking for content, time can be spent creating engaging visual narratives -- newsletters, yearbooks, team-books, digital student portfolios and the list goes on.
3. How have schools benefited from working with Vidigami?
Every department within a school benefits from working with Vidigami . Advancement and marketing use it to engage the community, IT departments rely on it to provide a private and secure way for storing, managing and sharing sensitive content, and faculty use it to showcase all the incredible work and experiences students are involved in every day.
At Fairfield Country Day School, the yearbook editor was responsible for collecting USB drives from every teacher and staff. Filled with photos - often unorganized - it would take endless hours of sorting and manual organization. With Vidigami, all photos are uploaded by staff directly into their respective groups and relevant albums. The yearbook team easily searches for the photos needed, creates sets appropriate for each section of the yearbook and are able to work collaboratively to curate photos for more engaging editorial. This process also helps marketing and communications. By applying unique tags on photos, the webmaster can pinpoint the best shots to use on the school website.
4. What’s your favorite product feature and why?
What makes Vidigami unique is its intelligent organization system, giving users a way to keep all their photos at their fingertips, and that’s what we love most about it. Capabilities like face tagging, adding context tags, and forming specific groups help create an incredible library of filters that make photos so much easier to search, view and curate. For instance, as long as students are tagged, simply typing their name in the search bar opens up a personalized library of all their photos over time, which is so valuable to both the school and parents.
5. Explain how your integration with the ON products works.
Single Sign On (SSO) access between Blackbaud’s ON products and Vidigami allows onboarded members to instantly connect to the app from their school portal by simply clicking on a Vidigami link, which can be added to the resource board page available in the ON products.
6. What’s the big initiative at Vidigami that every Blackbaud customers should know about?
Coming Spring 2017, Blackbaud customers will be able to leverage all their content stored in Vidigami, and make photos easily accessible from any ON product. Via the Vidigami embed link, custom sets of photos can be easily shared in onCampus and onMessage, streamlining the use of photos for sharing the student experience and building every school’s visual narrative. Using Vidigami’s Personal Link feature, schools can easily import complete collections of each student’s photos into Raiser’s Edge for enhanced access to student records.Contact email@example.com to learn more.
