Your school does amazing work and deserves to be able to raise all the money it needs to thrive. Yet, so many schools don’t have the time or resources to build a development system that delivers the fundraising results they need.
Most schools could benefit from professional fundraising counsel – an experienced advisor to help them transform their fundraising and build a strong development system. For many schools, though, professional fundraising help is out of reach. That’s why this year I’m partnering with Blackbaud to provide you with a full year of strategy and fundraising advice.
My name is Joe Garecht, and each year I help dozens of schools raise the money they need to succeed. Over the past decade, I’ve learned that most schools can and should be pursing the same basic strategy, with tweaks here and there to meet the unique needs of their school community. This year, I’m going to let you look over my shoulder as I guide an “average school” through the process of supercharging its fundraising.
For the purposes of this exercise, we’ll assume that our school:
- Is a private K-12 school in a suburban community
- Currently has 400 students with capacity for 50 more
- Charges a mid-range tuition and raises the remainder of the cost of education through fundraising
Over the course of the year, I’ll be advising our fictional school the same way I do actual clients, walking them through the key phases of building a strong development program. Here are the topics we will be covering:
