What does this mean for your school?
We have taken a huge step towards transforming onCampus into an open digital learning platform.
Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is a standard with the primary purpose of connecting learning management systems with external tools in a standardized way. Making it easier for schools to plug into 3rd party edtech tools was a theme announced during the onCampus Roadmap session at UC15. LTI compliance is helping us achieve this goal.
You can think about LTI in two buckets.
Bucket 1: Topic Learning Tools:
Teachers can supplement the onCampus native Topic Content Types by plugging into 3rd party content providers such as SoftChalk, Khan Academy, and YouTube.
Bucket 2: Deeper Integrations, which require some R&D effort to ensure optimal user experience.
Blackbaud K-12 will be able to leverage the interoperability standards to make integrating with certain 3rd party EdTech tools easier. However, we do need release cycles to make sure the functionality works in the context of the onCampus workflows.
We’ve started with Turnitin. But others in this bucket would include Kaltura (media production), Response (secure browsers for Assessments) and ExamSoft (more robust Assessments).
What are the Next Steps?
The Early Adopter Program (EAP) for our new Learning Tools task for Topics as well as the Turnitin integration are underway now. Our plan is to use the remainder of the school year to respond to EAP feedback. The general release for Learning Tools and the Turnitin integration is slated for July 2016 for all of our onCampus full edition schools.
