John Yen has a rich and diverse background of professional experience ranging from arts administration, fundraising, finance, technology, equity and inclusion, and art. John’s early career in theater arts administration, where he worked for Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in fundraising, and at Lincoln Center Theater in finance and technology laid the foundation for a career in nonprofit administration and education.
John has been the director of technology at Polytechnic School since 2006. As the director of technology, he leads Poly’s technology department.
John is a member of the administrative leadership team, the Heads Equity and Inclusion committee (HEIC), Middle School Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team, facilitates the middle school robotics/STEAM programs and is a middle school advisor. In addition, John serves as the Troop Committee Chair for the school’s Scouts BSA troops T5 (boys), T55 (girls), and Pack 5 (cubs). John is an alum and graduate of Poly class of 1989.
John served on the Return to Campus Steering Committee, as well as the On Campus and Distance Learning and the Health, Safety, and Facilities Task Forces. His involvement in DEI work is also prevalent and chaired the HEIC Task Force for Curricular Review and is a frequent collaborator on our various parent education and reconciliation events.
John is the co-chair of the ATLIS (Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools) DEI Committee, and co-chair of the Scouts BSA GLAAC (Greater Los Angeles Area Council) Committee on Technology.
