Before You Go!

Editor’s note: We’re excited to present episode four of our Back to School series with K–12 Expert, Hans Mundahl, Hans Mundahl & Associates. Hear Hans share his three favorite tips to maximize Assignments in onCampus, our learning management system.

Has it ever happened to you? You post your Assignments in onCampus for the week but then during class you get ahead, or behind, or something changes and you need to update an assignment.

How do you make sure your students are completing the correct assignment in the correct way?

Here are three tips to manage your onCampus assignments!

  1. Many schools offer teachers guidelines for when they should post the week’s assignments. For example, you might need to post everything for the next week by Sunday night, and major assessments need to be posted two weeks out. If you aren’t sure of your school’s policy, check with your technology integrator or academic dean.
  2. Next let students know that assignments can sometimes change.Designate a time of the day after which you won’t make any changes to the next day’s assignment. Students know if they check onCampus after that time they are all set to go.
  3. Sometimes students have questions about an assignment. To make sure everyone is on the same page, I always show the assignment calendar view to my students at the end of every class. I even added to my syllabus that if I didn’t show students the assignments in real life and offer a chance for them to ask questions they didn’t have to do the assignment!

There you go! Three tips to help you and your students keep track of assignments in onCampus!

I've been an educator since 1995 when I first stepped into the classroom as a Fulbright exchange teacher in the former East Germany. Since then I've been an Outward Bound instructor, a teacher, tutor, admission officer, house head, evening administrator on duty and I ran the experiential learning program at New Hampton School for almost ten years. Today I focus on technology integration centered on values-driven technology integration and 1:1 iPad initiatives. Recently I had the chance to help New Hampton School become an Apple Distinguished School and I co-authored the iBook Teaching with the iPad (available on the iBookstore). Now I'm the founder of a scrappy little company (one employee!) called Hans Mundahl and Associates, inc a digital strategy consultancy for schools and non-profits.
