Idea to Feature: Seeing it all with Athletic Event Management

April 26, 2013 Peter Baron

Managing all of your school’s athletic events, across all of your teams, is like piecing together a puzzle with really small pieces. You need to strain your eyes to see if the pieces fit — it’s not an easy task.

Not only do you have to schedule dates & times for your teams, but you also have to deal with space considerations, availability of transportation, and much more. It gets complicated fast.

Jackie Christensen, Product Owner for onCampus, heard about this complexity repeatedly from schools — Cushing Academy, Second Baptist School, and Rivers School all shared their frustrations during her campus visits.

An Interactive Space to Consolidate Athletic Management Tasks

The onCampus team took this feedback and developed a single, interactive space to consolidate tasks so that athletic directors “could see everything from a bird’s eye view” and be more efficient at managing their day-to-day responsibilities.

Now, when an athletic director navigates to onCampus, they’ll see a tile that displays the number of athletic events happening on that day. When they click into that tile, the new Athletic Event Management task will appear.

Here, they can view the day’s schedule by event, location, and transportation. Both games and practices are displayed.

The feature provides a clear view for athletic directors to see if there are any conflicts or double bookings.

The last piece to Athletic Event Management is the scoreboard — a visually stunning view of the day’s game results. Not only does it display the highlight from the games, but it’s functional, too. Athletic directors can enter in any scores, photos, game recaps, etc. that weren’t already supplied by the coaches.

We think that by consolidating all of the views and tasks, we’ve built a feature that makes it that much easier for athletic directors to be efficient at their jobs.
