Private Schools as a Luxury Good #PODCAST

March 26, 2015 Peter Baron

In the kickoff episode of Blackbaud K-12’s Get Connected Podcast, I’m excited to welcome Chris Lauricella to the show. Chris is the head of The Park School of Buffalo, a co-educational, college preparatory school located in Amherst, New York.

In our conversation, we dove into the concept of private schools as a luxury good. Park has spent a considerable amount of time examining how they communicate critical information with their families. The school understands that when it comes to sharing information online, they need to meet the high expectations of today’s web users.

Over the course of the podcast, we covered a lot of ground with some of the highlights outlined in the show notes below.

You have a few listening options. Download the episode, listen to the podcast below or subscribe to our channel on iTunes!

Show notes:: Get Connected Episode 01: Private Schools as a Luxury Good

– In the fall of 2014, Chris & I conducted a webinar on how Park implemented the “on” products. At one point during the presentation, Chris said something that stuck with me — that private schools are a luxury good.

It’s an idea that I’ve given a fair amount of thought to, and I think you’ll learn a lot from Chris as he talks about the idea throughout the course of the episode.

– I was curious to learn when the concept of private schools as a luxury good clicked with Chris. He explained when it dawned on him, and how did it has influenced the way Park communicates with its families.

Make sure to listen to this section — he shares some terrific examples and ideas that you can consider for your school!

– Lastly, toward the end of the episode, we examined how he introduced the concept to his faculty, and how they responded.
