Our Product Teams have been hard at work in the first half of the year developing new functionality in Blackbaud's education management solutions (formerly the “ON” Products) based on feedback from YOU in the K-12 Community. In the year between #BBUC16 and #BBUC17, we have addressed 87 ideas! That means we’ve delivered on 3,397 votes worth of client generated improvements since we started the community idea forum!
While improvements have been made across all Blackbaud's education management solutions , let’s highlight the ones that will have the biggest impact on your students, parents and teachers as they return for the 2017/2018 school year.
Interactive Assignment Rubrics
Rubrics are a wonderful teaching tool that allows teachers to clarify expectations and provide meaningful feedback on student work. And they are now a native part of Blackbaud Learning Management System™ (formerly onCampus®) LMS experience! With Rubrics in Blackbaud Learning Management System teachers can:
- Create and save templates, with customized skills and proficiency levels, with a native Rubric builder
- Collaborate by copying templates created by colleagues from a Rubric Bank
- Associate Rubrics directly with Blackbaud Learning Management System Assignments providing Students and Parents with clear learning expectations.
- Provide meaningful feedback on performance and outcomes using the interactive Rubric. Assignment grades flow directly from the Rubric to the native Blackbaud Learning Management System Grade Book.
Teachers are going to see some major improvements in the usability of the Blackbaud Learning Management System gradebook upon their return to school! Our goal was to make more information available at a glance, improve workflows and also provide more statistics.
The improvements include:
Exposing Assignment Grade Status indicators (Missing, Exempt, Incomplete) in the initial view. No more mystery triangle!
Supporting shortcuts (M = Missing, I = Incomplete, etc) so teachers don’t have to double click into the detail to add that status.
Exposing Overall Class Average as well as Mean, Median and Mode on Assignments.
Access to Rubrics
Improving the mobile experience.
Improving workflows for bulk adding points and comments
In addition to this blog post, you can see the updates in this highlight reel video!
Assignment Center New Statuses
The Assignment Center has become an indispensable organizational tool for many students, providing a filterable list of all their assignments from across all their classes.
With our recent updates, we’ve made it even better! New assignment statuses help communicate when an assignment has been marked Incomplete, Missing, Late or Exempt.
The student view of the assignment center also now separates statuses from available actions to help clarify what actions students can take on an assignment, such as Submit, Take and Change Status.
Bulletin Board and Topics HTML Editor
Sometimes a little color goes a long way to emphasize something on a page! The HTML editors throughout Bulletin Boards and Topics have been updated to support both font color and size choices to give your Teachers, Coaches, Advisors and Club Leaders more ways to express themselves.
Also, math and science teachers will be happy to hear that we now support LaTex markup language within all our HTML editors as well to render equations.
Every teacher has that kid that walks into class 30 seconds after the attendance has been submitted. Previously, fixing a recorded absence would have required a call down to the Attendance Manager to fix. Now schools will have the option to allow teachers to fix any attendance errors on their own!
